Former Inter Milan Striker Ramon Diaz: “I Still Support Nerazzurri, The Serie A Title Race Isn’t Over Yet”

Former Inter striker Ramon Diaz has revealed that he still follows the club and believes that they are not out of the Serie A title race yet, despite trailing leaders Napoli by 13 points.

The Nerazzurri face Sampdoria in Serie A on Monday evening, having defeated rivals AC Milan 1-0 in the Derby della Madonnina last weekend, and in an interview published in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, ex-Argentina international Diaz spoke of his joy at the result.

Inter’s victory was settled by a goal from compatriot Lautaro Martinez and Diaz felt that the strong historical ties between the Nerazzurri and Argentina were an additional factor in his feelings for the club.

“I always follow Serie A. I enjoyed Inter’s victory in the derby quite a lot,” the current Al Hilal coach claimed.

“Especially with Lautaro’s goal. The years pass but the Argentinians’ bond with Serie A remains alive and strong.

“I always root for Inter. I won the Scudetto there and they gave me great chances. The derby was magnificent and now I hope they keep winning to put pressure on Napoli. The title is still possible, Serie A is full of pitfalls, it’s hard fought and difficult.

“Napoli are doing very well, playing beautiful football with an excellent coach. But it’s not over. The season is long and Inter can come back,” he added.

Diaz joined Inter from Fiorentina in 1988 and scored 12 goals in 33 league games to help the Nerazzurri win the Scudetto in his sole season with the club, before moving on to Monaco.

The striker scored 10 goals in 22 caps for Argentina, whilst his coaching career has seen him lead River Plate, San Lorenzo, Oxford United, and the Paraguayan national team, amongst others.
