Legendary former Inter, Roma, and Real Madrid defender Walter Samuel feels that no matter what other teams may accomplish, the Treble that he and the Nerazzurri won in 2010 will always be a real piece of history.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster RSI, via FCInterNews, the Argentine also noted that the environment at the Nerazzurri was more like a family compared to at Real Madrid.

Samuel was a key part of the Inter team that won the European Treble during the 2009-10 season.

The Argentine had already established himself as one of the top defenders in European football over around a decade prior to then, but he and his teammates really immortalized themselves by winning all of Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League at the climax of the season.

The Nerazzurri had to wait until the very end of the season to get their reward, and for Samuel, it is still something memorable and historical.

“It was like the World Cup,” he looked back, “we could have won all three competitions or lost them in two weeks.”

“The team believed in it, for many of us who were starting to reach the end of our careers it was a unique opportunity.”

“We pushed hard, and fortunately for us it went as we hoped.”

“And it was something historic, which will remain forever,” the former defender added.”

“Even if other teams manage to do it, we will always remain the first.”

“It’s something that makes you proud just talking about it,” the Argentine said.

Samuel also noted that “When I was at Real, I suffered a lot, it was a different atmosphere and I also injured both of my knees. At Inter, it was like a family.”
