Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is expected to be handed a starting spot in the Nerazzurri’s Serie A match against Sampdoria on Monday, as he fights for his future at the club.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Belgium international has underwhelmed since returning to Inter on loan from Chelsea, due to a combination of poor form and injury issues.

Lukaku has only scored a single league goal this term, on the opening day of the season, and his only other goal came in the Champions League, having featured in just 474 minutes of action.

Inter are weighing up whether to bring the striker back next season on a second loan, and Lukaku is thought to be extremely keen to remain rather than return to Chelsea, but it will require an improvement in form and fitness.

The 29-year-old is determined to prove that he is still the same player who scored 64 goals across two seasons in his first spell with Inter, prior to joining Chelsea in a €115 million deal in 2021.
