Former Lazio, Juventus, and West Ham United striker Paolo Di Canio feels that if Inter striker Romelu Lukaku does not feel that the team’s attack is built around him, he can start to look a bit lost on the pitch.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, Di Canio noted that in his view, Lukaku is a player who must feel that he is right at the centre of a team in order to be at his best.

During Lukaku’s first two seasons at Inter, there was little question of the fact that the team was set up to get the best out of the Belgian.

The 29-year-old had a very positive relationship with former coach Antonio Conte, who always saw him as the player who could be the reference point in attack, and seemed to develop the rest of his tactical approach starting with the Belgian.

At Chelsea, it was a different story, whilst so far this season it has been hard to see what current Inter coach Simone Inzaghi truly has for Lukaku as the 29-year-old has struggled for fitness and form.

Di Canio gave the view of Lukaku that “He has to feel like he’s absolutely at the centre of how the team plays, and otherwise he risks having his head drop.”

“That’s why he has to get back to scoring and feeling like he’s important to the team,” he added.

Of the Nerazzurri’s Serie A clash with Sampdoria this evening, the former striker said that “Inter need to win to keep the momentum, the match against Sampdoria will be tough and they also have to think about it in view of the match against Porto.”

“Inter have to fight for multiple reasons,” Di Canio added, “the table, keeping their concentration.”

“It’s a match in which they can’t afford to go wrong.”
