Inter midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu has sent his wishes to the people affected by the recent earthquake that devastated Turkey and Syria.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia after the Nerazzurri’s Serie A draw against Sampdoria, via FCInterNews, the 29-year-old spoke about his hope for the victims of the disaster to be able to recover.

The recent earthquake that affected Turkey and Syria has elicited a strong response from the world of football, from players and organizations of all nationalities.

However, footballers from a Turkish or Syrian background have naturally been especially moved by the tragic loss of life and upheaval that has been brought about by the disaster.

Numerous Turkish players currently play in Serie A, with Inter midfielder Calhanoglu one of the most high profile.

The Nerazzurri player is also the captain of the Turkish national team, with whom he is one of the most experienced currently active internationals.

The 29-year-old wore a special shirt with the message “Pray for Turkiye” in the warm-up for yesterday’s match and under his matchday shirt, as he tried to show his support for all those affected by the devastation.

“Thanks to everyone, my teammates, coaches, clubs, and everyone who has given me their support,” Calhanoglu said.

“We’re fighting against all possible conditions, I think it was a very powerful earthquake and it hurts to see the images that are coming out from it,” he added.

“Still, life goes on and we’re with the victims giving them our support,” the Inter midfielder said.

“I hope that they can get out as soon as possible, and return to living their lives,” he concluded.
