Italian journalist Paolo Condo believes that Inter’s Serie A match against Sampdoria this evening’s Serie A match against Sampdoria is the perfect opportunity for them to give themselves the decisive advantage in the race for top four.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInterNews, the journalist noted that this can be the Nerazzurri’s “set point” if they pull away from all of Roma, AC Milan, and Atalanta in the hunt for a Champions League spot.

Given the outstanding form of Napoli at the top of the Serie A table, the sense is that the Scudetto is no longer a realistic objective for Inter.

However, top four certainly looks within reach, and moreover, would be seen as the bare minimum for the club given the financial ramifications of missing out.

After this weekend’s round of fixtures, Inter are two points ahead of all of the Giallorossi, the Rossoneri, and La Dea, second behind leaders Napoli.

However, if the Nerazzurri are to win their match this evening, they will extend that lead to five points.

Condo writes that “Inter have at least one point in hand,” in the race for top four.

“A win against Sampdoria would take them five points clear of all their rivals, and give them control,” he adds.
