Benfica and former Inter and Sporting CP midfielder Joao Mario feels that the upcoming Champions League round of sixteen tie between the Nerazzurri and Porto is essentially too close to call.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the 29-year-old praised the quality of both Inter and Porto, and predicted a tightly-contested affair as the two teams go head to head for a place in the Champions League quarterfinals.

Mario currently plays for Benfica, having joined from Inter in the summer of 2021.

The Euro 2016 winner has plenty of experience playing against Porto, for both his current club as well as for their Lisbon rivals Sporting.

The Portuguese international also has plenty of history with the Nerazzurri, and is well aware of how they are doing in Serie A and in the Champions League.

For his part, Mario does not find the upcoming round of sixteen tie between the two sides to be one that can be predicted.

“Inter are a top side, and so are Porto,” the midfielder said.

“In my opinion, it will be 50/50, they’re similar teams.”

“Inter have quality and can do well, but I don’t know if there’s a favourite, I expect it will be balanced,” Mario said.
