Inter missed a good chance to improve their position in the Serie A table with their goalless draw against Sampdoria, but they cannot dwell on it as they have an even more important opportunity against Porto in the Champions League.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInterNews, who take stock of the Nerazzurri’s next move following a frustrating slip-up against the Blucerchiati.

Given that Roma and Lazio had both dropped points earlier in the weekend, Inter will have been well aware that a win against second-from-bottom Sampdoria would have given them a fairly commanding five-point buffer in second place in the Serie A table.

Instead, the Nerazzurri failed to break through, and had to settle for extending their lead in second to just three points.

However, the Nerazzurri are just over a week away from facing Porto in a Champions League round of sixteen tie, a knockout clash with far greater immediate ramifications for their season as their league fortunes look increasingly mediocre.
