Player Ratings – Sampdoria 0 – 0 Inter Milan: The Roller-Coaster Results Continue

Inter played a goalless draw away at Sampdoria on Match Day 22 of the 2022/2023 Serie A season to trail Napoli 15 points who look to be cruising to the Serie A title.

The Nerazzurri started the match really well and created several chances but where unable to score due to poor finished.

Not to mention being robbed of a clear penalty which seemed to destabilize Inter from that point as tempers were flaring.

In the second half, the Nerazzurri continued as they had towards the end of the first period: nervous, ill-tempered but also frustrated and despite creating lots of chances.

André Onana – 6,5: Did not have much to do as Sampdoria were limited to only 2 shots on target, but made good saves when necessary and was commanding off his line.

Milan Skriniar – 6: Made a few good recoveries and clearances but rushed into tackles at times and got beaten by his man more than usual.
Stefan de Vrij – 6: A strong defensive performance, winning the majority of his duels and making many key actions such as interceptions, and clearances.
Francesco Acerbi – 6,5: Good performance, took the Bastoni-mould and was making himself an option on attack. Had an incredible shot that was stopped by an even better save. Inter’s MOTM.
Matteo Darmian – 6: Decent match, created chances down the right flank but came to nothing in the end. Did well to try to make things happen for the team.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 6: Looked tired today and several 90′ performances in a row is catching up. Looked to create something in the middle of the park but was unable to.
Hakan Calhanoglu – 6: Created several chances and took a few long-shots that were not far off the target. Tested the keeper several times, but his crossing was subpar.
Nicolo Barella – 6: Provided his usual flair and skillset, but was (rightfully) called out by teammate Romelu Lukaku for his constant whining. Did well today.
Robin Gosens – 5: Subbed off at half sums up his night. Was given a chance to start, finally, but was unable to capitalize. Made decent offensive contributions.
Romelu Lukaku – 5,5: Lost the ball far too many times when trying to hold up play and lay it off for a teammate. Clearly was not working. Created a few chances.
Lautaro Martinez – 5: Had a few strong shots on net but squandered a golden opportunity near the end of the match to claim the 3 points. Very quiet evening.
Federico Dimarco – 5: Replaced Gosens at half-time but did just as poorly, if not worse, than the German. Not up to his usual standards today and failed to make an impact.
Marcelo Brozovic – 6: Came on for Barella in the 66′ and did well enough to provide defensive cover and use his playmaking abilities to create chances.
Edin Dzeko – 5: Was brought on for Lukaku in the 66′. Was unable to make himself an attacking threat, and wasted a decent chance to score.
Denzel Dumfries – 5: Entered for Darmian in the 66′. Poor crosses is the same story for Dumfries, as he was unable to put in a decent ball on the right.
Valentin Carboni – N/A: Substituted for Mkhitaryan in the 89′. Did not play enough to be rated.
Simone Inzaghi – 5,5: Interesting decision to bench Brozovic and not use Bastoni, but was ultimately let down by the squad today. Not an excuse, results remain inconsistent
Fabio Maresca – 6,5: No real big decisions to be made, as minor decisions throughout the match were inconsistent for both sides.

Inter – 4,5: Horrible team performance overall, failure to create strong chances and inability to pounce on those that were there. Another inconsistent result.
