Villarreal are the only team to have made Inter defender Stefan de Vrij a contract offer for next season despite other clubs also being interested in his signature on a free transfer.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the 31-year-old would like to extend his contract and stay at Inter, although he has concerns about his relative lack of playing time at the Nerazzurri this season.

Villarreal have already made clear their interest in signing de Vrij, who would replace former Napoli and Real Madrid player Raul Albiol in their backline after the former Spanish international hung up his boots.

The likes of Newcastle United,Leicester City, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, and Nice are all reportedly interested, but have yet to go as far as making the Dutchman a concrete offer, whereas Villarreal have offered a deal worth €3.5 million net per season.

For his part, de Vrij’s priority remains to stay at Inter, as he is happy at the Nerazzurri and in the city of Milan.

However, the former Lazio and Feyenoord defender is conscious of the fact that his playing time has fallen off this season as he has seemingly displaced from the starting eleven by Francesco Acerbi.

De Vrij would be happy to stay, but would expect some clarity regarding his role in the team if he is to sign a new deal.
