Former Inter and Udinese midfielder Fausto Pizzi believes that it is unfortunate that Inter have been slipping up in winnable matches on paper as it’s meant that they haven’t capitalized on some important wins in Serie A.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, via FCInter1908, the former midfielder gave his thoughts on the Nerazzurri’s current form, and also looked ahead to the Serie A match between two of his former teams on Saturday.

Inter’s form over the past few weeks has certainly looked rather topsy-turvy.

Wins against the likes of Napoli and AC Milan in the league should have been a platform on which to build a real title challenge, but then draws away to Monza and Sampdoria and a shock loss at home against Empoli have all but quashed this notion.

For his part, Pizzi finds it unfortunate that the good work that the team has done has been undone by these slip-ups.

“It’s a shame, because with the way that they won against Napoli and in the derby matches I expected the team to get a boost, but then they lost against Empoli and suffered a goalless draw against Sampdoria,” he noted.

“In 2023 alone, they’ve dropped seven points against the smaller teams,” he continued.

“I’m not saying that they would necessarily have gotten back into the Scudetto race, but it’s still unfortunate to leave those points behind.”

Asked what he expects from Udinese at the San Siro, Pizzi said that “Udinese are a team that never let you play.”

“They’re a team full of physical players.”

“The important thing for Inter is that they don’t have one eye already on the Champions League, they have to start the match off at the right pace and try to kill it off immediately,” Pizza suggested.
