Inter, Barcelona, and Atletico Madrid are set to miss out on signing Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino, as the Brazilian is getting closer and closer to extending his contract with his current club.

This according to Italian news outlet FCInterNews, who report that the 31-year-old is a major target for the Nerazzurri and big clubs in La Liga, but that the Reds are very keen to extend his contract.

Firmino has been one of the players who Inter have been most strongly linked with as a potential attacking reinforcement, particularly in the event that Romelu Lukaku’s loan from Chelsea were to not be extended.

The former Hoffenheim striker is a long-term target for Nerazzurri Sporting Director Piero Ausilio.

However, according to FCInterNews, Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp has been pushing to have Firmino’s contract extended.

The Brazilian does not want to see his wages, worth €8 million net per season plus €2 million in add-ons, lowered.

Meanwhile, the player has been asking for a new three-year deal whilst the Reds have been offering a two-year contract, and a compromise could be found in the form of a two-year deal with the option of an additional season.
