Inter will ask Chelsea for a lower loan fee if they are to bring back striker Romelu Lukaku next season, whilst they also intend to ask the player to accept lower wages.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri are still considering extending the 29-year-old’s loan, but that they want the costs to reflect the player’s subpar performances this season.

Given that, even when he has been fit this season, Lukaku has looked a long way from his best this season, there has been a lot of doubt regarding the Belgian’s future at Inter.

Yesterday the Corriere reported that the Nerazzurri are starting to be more inclined towards simply declining to extend the striker’s loan from Chelsea.

However, the possibility of bringing Lukaku back would not be off the table, although the player is aware that he would have to take a wage cut, whilst the Nerazzurri would also attempt to use his form this season as leverage to negotiate a lower fee from Chelsea.
