Atalanta defender Merih Demiral had been prepared to join Inter during the January transfer window, but the two clubs were unable to agree a deal for him.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Corriere della Sera, via FCInterNews, who report that the 24-year-old former Juventus and Sassuolo player rejected the interest of Nottingham Forest but was ready to accept a move to the Nerazzurri.

Demiral had been one of the main targets lined up by Inter towards the end of the January window as a replacement for Milan Skriniar as they waited to see whether Paris Saint-Germain would make a large enough offer to sign the Slovakian.

The Nerazzurri were prepared to move for Demiral in the event that PSG made an offer they were willing to accept, but no such offer arrived, and in the meantime they were unable to coordinate the negotiations with the Parisians and those with Atalanta to make La Dea a sufficient offer.

For his part, however, Demiral would have been happy to join Inter.

The Turkish international had rejected an offer from Nottingham Forest during the window, but he would have been prepared to make the switch to Inter last month.
