Former Inter forward Christian Vieri believes that Nerazzurri striker Romelu Lukaku is struggling to adapt to Serie A without ex-coach Antonio Conte.

The Belgium international was hugely prolific in his first spell at Inter, from 2019 until 2021, under the tutelage of Conte, and fired the club to the league title in the latter year with 24 goals.

However, he endured a miserable season in the Premier League last season after completing a €115 million move to Chelsea, and upon returning to Inter on loan has struggled with just two goals, prompting criticism from Vieri in his Bobo TV Twitch stream, and as reported by FCInterNews.it.

Vieri also felt that comparisons with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen were wide of the mark, and that Lukaku could not make the same impact as the Nigeria international.

“He is physically heavier than Osimhen. The Belgian was dominant two years ago with Conte. This season, without he is struggling to find the physical form and pace of the match.

“But he cannot be compared to Osimhen because the Nigerian has different characteristics in the expression of the game.”

Vieri joined Inter from Lazio in 1999 and scored 123 goals in 190 appearances for the Nerazzurri, before moving to rivals AC Milan in 2005.
