Former Napoli coach Giovanni Galeone believes that Juventus have performed as well as Inter this season, arguing that the Nerazzurri have the best team in the league.

The Bianconeri were hit with a 15 point penalty last month after being found guilty of capital gains fraud, but would be level on points with Inter on 44 without the punishment.

Galeone coached Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri during a stint at Pescara from 1990 until 1993, and in an interview published in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, praised his former midfielder’s work this season.

“Do you think it’s easy to manage such a situation? Max took the whole weight of the Juventus team on his shoulders, with great responsibility,” Galeone declared.

“Allegri is doing much more than just coaching and after the -15 punishment he compacted the team and earned points. On the pitch they have won 44, the same as second-placed Inter. And on paper the Nerazzurri are the strongest team in Serie A.”

Meanwhile, Galeone argued that Juventus ought to bring former CEO Beppe Marotta back to the club, after he worked at the Bianconeri from 2010 until moving to Inter in 2018.

“Juventus need Marotta. A well-balanced and experienced manager, he knows football and he talks to the coach. It’s no coincidence that Max reached the Champions League final twice with him.

“And along with the Inter CEO we also need someone like Napoli’s Cristiano Giuntoli or Milan’s Federico Massara.

“Look at what Giuntoli did in the summer: everyone was crying over the sales of Insigne, Koulibaly and the other big names, but the Napoli director bought some fantastic players, along with Luciano Spalletti,” he concluded.

Juventus went into the weekend’s round of fixtures in ninth place in Serie A following their points deduction.
