Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio revealed that he has been suffering with a groin injury for half a year but is close to a full recovery, after featuring in yesterday’s 3-1 win over Udinese.

The former Torino defender was a second half substitute in the Serie A victory against the Zebrette at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, as Inter moved three points clear in second place in the table thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Lautaro Martinez.

In an interview with Italian television broadcaster DAZN after the game, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, the 34-year-old admitted that he had been struggling with injury for some time.

D’Ambrosio also praised the impact of striker Martinez, despite the Argentine missing a good chance before his goal.

“Lautaro doesn’t have to apologise to anyone, he is a formidable player and after the World Cup he arrived with the boost of being a world champion, you can’t buy that anywhere,” D’Ambrosio said.

“The pitch is good, but from there to scoring is Lautaro’s talent.

“On a personal level I’ve been suffering from pubalgia for six months now, I’ve been coming out of it for a while. I train professionally and I always want to show that I’m there when the coach asks me to be ready.”

Inter’s victory saw midfielder Marcelo Brozovic return to the starting line-up for the first time in five months, whilst Lukaku netted his first league goal since the opening day of the season, and D’Ambrosio felt their return to form and fitness would be crucial.

“It’s certainly important that Lukaku and Brozovic return to their peak levels. Inter are lucky that they can count on so many players. It will be tough against Porto,” he added.

Inter take on the Portuguese club in the Champions League on Wednesday at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
