Inter midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan claimed that the 3-1 win over Udinese in Serie A yesterday was a good platform to build on ahead of a clash against Porto in midweek.

The former Armenia international scored a fine second half goal to help the Nerazzurri overcome the Zebrette at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, with strikers Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez grabbing the other goals to secure the win.

In an interview yesterday with the club’s inhouse television channel, Inter TV, and as reported by FCInterNews.it, Mkhitaryan insisted that focus was now being turned towards securing a first leg victory over Porto in the Champions League on Wednesday.

“I’m happy for this goal, it wasn’t the first at San Siro but the second. Anyway, the three points count a lot and we are very happy to have obtained them,” he declared.

Mkhitaryan suggested that Inter would be working on ways to overcome Porto, and using the week to prepare for the Portuguese giants.

“We know it won’t be an easy match, we will analyse what we can do better. In these matches you have to be smart also because you play on a return leg.”

The 34-year-old was delighted to have found the back of the net, but appeared to be struggling with an injury at the end of the match.

“I missed so many chances year before scoring this one, I’m glad it came today. For me, however, the most important thing is the team’s results and not the individual ones.

“We’ll evaluate my condition tomorrow, I hope it’s nothing serious,” he added.

Mkhitaryan joined Inter from Roma as a free agent last summer and has made 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.
