Inter have made progress in tying key players down to new contracts, with Stefan De Vrij the latest player to receive a proposal following a breakthrough in talks with Hakan Calhanoglu.

Appearing on Italian television broadcaster Sky Sport Italia during Inter’s 3-1 win over Udinese at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza yesterday, and as reported by FCInter1908.it, Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio offered updates on some of the contract situations at the club.

Indeed, he revealed that Turkey international Calhanoglu will follow defender Matteo Darmian in penning a new deal, whilst Inter have made an offer to centre-back Stefan de Vrij in a bid to avoid losing him as a free agent this summer.

“I don’t think there will be surprises in the renewals, the next one will be Calhanoglu,” Di Marzio said.

“Inter have made an important offer to de Vrij, we need to understand what his response will be because losing him after Milan Skriniar would mean going for at least two high-level defenders.

“De Vrij has not decided yet, there are margins for him to renew.”

Inter coach Simone Inzaghi rested goalkeeper Andre Onana for the win over Udinese, but Di Marzio felt that it could have benefitted the Cameroonian, whilst he also shrugged off the dispute between Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku against Sampdoria last week.

“The challenge could do Onana good, who is not going through his greatest spell. Lukaku-Barella? That’s Barella’s way with his teammates, not just Lukaku.”

Inter turn their attention towards the Champions League now, with Portuguese club Porto visiting the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on Wednesday.
