Referee Federico Dionisi made the correct call in awarding Inter a first half penalty in their 3-1 win over Udinese in Serie A yesterday, according to Italian media.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, the official was right to give the hosts a spot kick at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza after Denzel Dumfries was challenged by Walace, with the Udinese defender catching the Inter man and failing to get the ball with his tackle.

Dionisi was called to the VAR monitor and gave Inter the penalty, which was duly missed by Romelu Lukaku as Marco Silvestri blocked his tame effort.

However, the Belgian striker was given the opportunity to retake it due to Adam Masina’s encroachment into the box, with the refereeing team praised for spotting this, and Lukaku made no mistake the second time around.

Meanwhile, Dionisi was praised for not giving Inter a penalty after just eight minutes when Nicolo Barella went down in the box, with a push from Destiny Udogie not deemed to be strong enough to warrant a foul.
