Advisor to AC Milan Giuseppe Bonomi doesn’t rule out the possibility of the Rossoneri building a new stadium outside the San Siro area, and expects that if that were to be the case, it would be without city rivals Inter.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Rossonera, via FCInterNews, Bonomi gave his thoughts on the potential for Milan to build a new stadium in an area where there would be less of a delay to construction, provided that it were to be feasible.
As time passes without Inter and Milan receiving approval on plans to build a new stadium to replace the San Siro, the Rossoneri in particular have grown impatient and started to consideration.
The Sesto San Giovanni area has been linked as a possibility, whilst other areas have also been rumoured.
For his part, advisor to Milan Bonomi does not hide that there would be a possibility of pursuing alternate plans without the Nerazzurri.
“If we were to do this, it would begin as an exclusive investment by Milan,” he explained.
“The Sesto area is certainly among those being considered,it’s an area that would lend itself to the project, as would others,” he continued.
“If we unfortunately have to change plans from the project at San Siro, we don’t want to be caught unprepared, and we won’t.”
“I’m convinced that even in the unfortunate scenario that we had to abandon the project that we’ve been working on for three years, we would be able to make up for lost time by starting quickly elsewhere,” Bonomi explained.
“What is certain is that the current San Siro area has a particular appeal for us,” he stressed.
“First of all because of its location, but also due to the tradition it holds, given that San Siro has always been our home, but I’m not nostalgic and I believe changes are necessary or otherwise we won’t be able to be competitive,” Bonimi said.
“The gap with other big European clubs is widening, and if we look at the reasons, foremost among them is the limit on revenues that can be gotten from stadiums.”
“Hence, it is only appropriate that a few years ago, Milan started formulating plans for a new stadium,” he explained.
“It wouldn’t be the end of the world if we were to build a modern and beautiful stadium elsewhere either,” Bonomi added, “as long as it were somewhere obviously well-served by local public transportation.”
