Former Inter midfielder Stephane Dalmat has faith that striker Romelu Lukaku can have a big impact over the final months of the season.

Speaking on his Instagram story, via FCInterNews, the former midfielder suggested that the Belgian can be the player who really spurs the team on throughout what remains of the season now that he is finally fit.

Lukaku has certainly not lived up to expectations over the first part of the season.

The Belgian has struggled with injury and fitness problems which have meant that he has not even been available for half of Inter’s matches, and that even when he has been able to play, has not looked at his best.

However, now as the Nerazzurri head into the business end of the season, the 29-year-old will have a real opportunity to finally show that he can be back to his best.

For his part, Dalmat backs Lukaku to finally be the player who Inter brought him back in the hopes of him being.

“I’m delighted for Romelu Lukaku,” the Frenchman said after Lukaku’s performance against Udinese in Serie A, “it’s just a penalty, but I’m very happy to see him score.”

“To me he looked better than he had in other matches, but I’ve always had faith in him.”

“He has to play and play in order to gain confidence, but when a player has had an injury like he did then it can be very difficult to re-find his rhythm right away.”

Dalmat argued that “He has to wait, I know it’s taking a long time, but yesterday he looked physically better to me.”

He continued of the striker that “If he can find his level again, it’s a big boost for Inter, a player like that brings out the best in his teammates as well.”

“I hope I’m not wrong in saying this, to me he’s the main for the rest of the season.”
