Inter’s contract extension negotiations with a number of key players could be affected by whether or not the team reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the talks with all of Alessandro Bastoni, Hakan Calhanoglu, Stefan de Vrij, and Edin Dzeko could all be unlocked by the financial windfall of reaching the next round.
Inter will be hoping for the €20 million windfall that would come from reaching the quarterfinal stage of the Champions League.
There are a number of reasons that this is the case, but the contract extension talks ongoing are certainly among them.
Bastoni and Calhanoglu are two players whose deals Inter are very keen to extend past the end of June 2024 as soon as possible, given the priority to not face another Skriniar situation.
Meanwhile, de Vrij and Dzeko both see their contracts expire at the end of June, and Inter want to keep hold of both past the end of the current season.
In all of these talks, if Inter were to have the greater financial wiggle room that would come from reaching the Champions League quarterfinals, the negotiations could potentially be wrapped up quicker.
