Legendary former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta feels that Inter have the right approach to do well in the Champions League.

Writing in his column in yesterday’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInterNews, the former defender explained that he thinks that whilst the Nerazzurri do not necessarily have the consistent mentality needed for a league campaign, they are well-suited to Europe.

Inter will be hoping that they can put some recent inconsistency in Serie A behind them by making a statement in the Champions League.

The two-legged round of sixteen tie against Porto starting with Wednesday’s first-leg match at the San Siro gives the Nerazzurri the chance to reach the last eight of Europe’s top competition.

Then, from there, Inter could prove themselves by doing something even more special in a competition that is considered to be the pinnacle of European club football.

“Inter can do well, they have that European mentality,” Costacurta writes.

“Then when you see that they’ve dropped five points against Empoli and Sampdoria, you start to think that maybe they’re really attracted to the idea of winning in the other competition.”
