Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin expects that it is essentially now or never for striker Romelu Lukaku in an Inter shirt.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInter1908, the journalist explained that, if the Belgian does not prove to the Nerazzurri that he is worth investing in another paid loan from Chelsea soon, they will decline to extend his loan past the end of the season.

Lukaku has certainly not lived up to expectations since his high profile return to Inter from Chelsea on loan during last summer transfer window.

The 29-year-old’s disappointing performances have cast major doubt on whether or not the Nerazzurri will ultimately decide to try and negotiate an extension on his loan from Chelsea for next season.

Naturally, the club would expect improvements in the Belgian’s performances over the coming matches if they are to consider keeping him.

In Biasin’s view, these improvements will have to come very soon if Inter are to try and loan him again next season.

“Inter can’t just gamble another €20 million on Lukaku,” Biasin explained, referring to the striker’s wages and the loan fee from Chelsea.

“For €20 million, teams like Napoli have proved that you can buy outright players who make the difference,” he continued.

Biasin noted that “The clock is now ticking for Lukaku, either he proves that he is more or less the player that he was two years ago, or is loan won’t be extended.”

“Everyone would like to see him return to being the player he was at his best, but he has to prove it on the pitch.”

“Inter cannot afford to make another €20 million gamble,” Biasin added.
