Former Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni feels that this Nerazzurri team have everything they need to get to the quarterfinal stage of the Champions League.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInterNews, Stramaccioni also gave the view that striker Romelu Lukaku took a real risk in pushing to return to the Nerazzurri on loan from Chelsea.

Inter will see reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League as a massively significant step forward, with the team having crashed out of Europe’s top competition at the round of sixteen stage last season.

Nothing is to be taken for granted against an opponent as difficult as Porto, but for former Nerazzurri coach Stramaccioni’s part, he feels that the team have a very good chance of doing it this season.

“Tomorrow’s match is hugely important because the Scudetto is virtually out of sight and they have to go for it,” the former coach said.

“I’m not saying that I think that they can win the trophy, but I think that they get get to the next round,” he added.

Stramaccioni also gave his view on the move of Lukaku to Inter back on loan from Chelsea last summer, a move which raised many eyebrows.

“Going back to the team where he wasn’t just good, but brilliant, was something with a lot of risks,” he said of the Belgian’s return.

“Then at the beginning of the season, the player suffered a serious injury which has affected him.”

Stramaccioni argued that “Conte’s absence has nothing to do with his performances this season, Inzaghi was brought to Inter precisely because his style of play is similar to Antonio’s.”
