Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that having striker Romelu Lukaku back fit and firing will be a big boost for his team over the coming weeks.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, the coach explained that the Belgian’s contribution has been sorely missed over the past few months, and that he’s happy to have the player back.

Lukaku demonstrated just what Inter have been missing during his struggles for form and fitness with his substitute appearance against Porto yesterday evening.

The 29-year-old not only scored the match’s only goal to give the Nerazzurri the advantage going into the second leg of the round of sixteen tie, but made life difficult for the Porto backline virtually the entirely time that he was on the pitch.

For Lukaku’s coach Inzaghi, it will be greatly appreciated having the Belgian back at his disposal with some of the team’s most important matches of the season yet to come.

“We’re happy, he’s a weapon for us,” the coach said.

“We know what he can give us, his injury problems were a blow for us,” he continued.

“We know the kind of player he is, and how much he can give to Inter.”

Of the reaction of Edin Dzeko after being substituted off, Inzaghi said that “These things can happen on the pitch, and he was the first person to run onto the pitch to celebrate with Lukaku after his goal.”

“Even I sometimes wasn’t happy as a player when I was substitute, and Edin has given us a lot over the past eighteen months,” he added.
