Inter striker Romelu Lukaku feels that he is ready to give his best, and that if coach Simone Inzaghi decides to call on him he can push the team on in attack.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, the Belgian expressed confidence in what he will be able to contribute over the rest of the season.
Lukaku has not managed to give close to what has been expected to him so far this season, as injuries have either kept the 29-year-old off the pitch altogether or seen him struggling for form and match-fitness.
Against Porto last night, however, the Belgian’s displays had the look of a player whose hard work is starting to pay off.
It is still too early to say whether this will be a new dawn for Lukaku, but his goal and performance certainly showed the Nerazzurri what they’ve been missing during his absences through injury.
Asked about whether the “real” Lukaku can return, the striker replied that “I’m here, and then it depends on what the coach decides.”
“I’m ready, now I just have to show that I can help the team.”
Of how his injuries affected him, Lukaku noted that “In fifteen years I’ve never had a period like this, it’s the first time I’ve dealt with such a lengthy injury.”
“I’ve only gotten more strength from this, though, and now I’m ready to help the team.”
