Porto head coach Sergio Conceicao feels that his team deserved better than their 1-0 loss to Inter based on their performance in yesterday evening’s Champions League round of sixteen first leg match.

Speaking in a press conference after the match, via FCInterNews, the Portuguese coach also argued that Nerazzurri striker Lautaro Martinez should’ve been given a yellow card for a late tackle on Porto defender Pepe, which would see the Argentine suspended for the second leg.

Porto looked as though they would take a result back to Portugal for the second leg until late on in yesterday evening’s first leg match.

The Portuguese champions put in a disciplined and organized performance which saw the Nerazzurri create few telling chances, whilst they created some dangerous moments at the other end themselves.

A late red card to Otavio proved to be the moment that swung the tie in favour of Inter, but for Conceicao’s part, he feels the result is unduly harsh based on what his team produced.

“It’s not a fair result, in my opinion,” the coach said.

“The last ten minutes were difficult for us due to Otavio being sent off.”

Conceicao continued that “There were other players who deserved a yellow card such as Lautaro, who would’ve missed the second leg with a booking.”

“We didn’t lose through fault by the referee, but it was a decisive moment in the match, you decide whether it’s right or not,” he added.
