Former Inter defender Daniele Adani believes that from the position that they find themselves in, the Nerazzurri must consider the quarterfinals of the Champions League a main objective.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInter1908, Adani gave his views on the team’s Champions League campaign, also praising coach Simone Inzaghi for getting his substitutions right against Porto.
Inter have managed to give themselves a very real chance of reaching the last eight of Europe’s top club competition this season.
Getting to the knockouts wasn’t easy out of a group containing the likes of Bayern Munich and Barcelona, nor was getting a narrow 1-0 victory over Porto in the first leg of their round of sixteen tie.
However, nothing is done, and for Adani, the Nerazzurri must follow up on this work and continue to prove themselves in the second leg.
The former defender contrasted Inter’s situation in Europe with that of their city rivals AC Milan, noting that “Milan’s project is still in an immature phase, whereas Inter are a fully mature team as they’ve shown against Barcelona and Liverpool.”
“For the Nerazzurri, reaching the quarterfinals is virtually a duty,” he argued.
Adani said of the first leg against Porto that “Inter are a stronger team than Porto, but they have the depth of their squad to thank for their advantage.”
“The arrivals of Lukaku, Gosens, and Brozovic changed the match in the Nerazzurri’s favour,” he added.
