Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin believes that it is far from a foregone conclusion that Romelu Lukaku will have his loan at Inter from Chelsea extended past the end of the season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Telelombardia, via FCInter1908, the journalist explained that, as he understands it, the Nerazzurri’s pursuit of Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marcus Thuram still shows that they are considering a possible future without Lukaku in attack.

Lukaku finally put in a decisive performance in a big match for Inter this season as he came off the bench and scored the only goal in a 1-0 Champions League win over Porto yesterday evening.

This was exactly the kind of display that has been needed in order to cement a future for the Belgian at the Nerazzurri, as the club would hardly be inclined to extend his loan if he were to continue to struggle for fitness and form.

From Biasin’s perspective, though, the 29-year-old would still have a way to go before he fully convinces the club.

“Lukaku knows he owes Inter a debt of gratitude, but fortunately he still has the chance to spur the team on to winning, and to convince the club to extend his loan,” he said.

“Let’s remember that Inter do not have endless money to throw out the window, and right now I don’t think they’d extend his loan,” he added.

“I should also point out that, I think, Inter are doing everything that they can to bring in Marcus Thuram, who I think has essentially told them that he would consider it, but is waiting for offers from other leagues,” Biasin explained.

“In my opinion, Lukaku still has a long way to go to convince Inter to extend his loan.”
