Inter earned less from their Champions League home clash with Porto than city rivals AC Milan did for theirs against Tottenham Hotspur, and this was because the ticket prices were lower for the Nerazzurri’s match.

This is detailed in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who note that the Nerazzurri took a gate receipt of €6.7 million for their match compared to €9.1 million for their city rivals, as they have other high-earning matches on the horizon.

The total number of spectators at the San Siro for Inter’s 1-0 win over Porto was 75,374.

For the Rossoneri’s win over Spurs, that number was 74, 320.

Despite the Nerazzurri actually drawing a slightly larger crowd, the lower ticket prices meant that their earnings were less than Milan’s from gate receipts.

As Tuttosport points out, the primary reason for the Nerazzurri keeping ticket prices lower for their Champions League round of sixteen match concerned the fact that they have a match against Juventus on the horizon in the Coppa Italia semi-final.

Given that this will also be a match that is virtually guaranteed to draw a sell-out crowd or something very close to it, the Nerazzurri had less of a need to charge high prices for tickets in their Champions League match.
