Roma defender Chris Smalling has made clear his desire to remain at the club if they meet his contract demands, despite interest from Inter.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of Corriere dello Sport, the English centre-back is happy to commit his future to the Giallorossi, provided that they offer him a two-year contract.

The former Manchester United defender is out of contract at the end of the season but has the option to trigger a one-year extension due to the percentage of league matches he has appeared in this term.

Smalling is seeking guarantees that he will remain in the first team picture at Roma beyond the end of next season and the 33-year-old is keen to have the security of an additional year.

Inter had been monitoring his situation at the Stadio Olimpico as they seek a replacement for Milan Skriniar, and potentially Stefan De Vrij.

Smalling joined Roma from Manchester United on an initial loan in 2019 before signing as a free agent the following year.
