Despite setting out to build a new stadium together, the relationship between Inter and AC Milan is now at an all-time low and doubts are being cast about their shared project.

As reported in today’s newspaper edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are unimpressed with suggestions that the Rossoneri will abandon them in favour of building a new stadium by themselves.

The two Serie A clubs have encountered numerous obstacles in their efforts to move away from the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, particularly from the city’s council, and this has had an effect on their relationship.

Whilst talks between Inter and Milan have not broken off, the former are still committed to a shared project that would see the clubs continue to co-own the new ground, whilst the latter wish to build their own stadium far from the San Siro.

This has caused frustration from Inter’s side, with owners Suning unhappy with how Milan have conducted their plans in public and the difficulties in arranging planning discussions with the Rossoneri.

Inter are keen to remain at the San Siro site and build a new ground there, but if Milan decide to go solo then the Nerazzurri will plan accordingly.

They have no intention of remaining in the current stadium, even with modernisation works, and will look for a solo project themselves if necessary.

Meanwhile, it is thought that the San Siro stadium will not be demolished, but will no longer be used to host football matches.
