Italian journalist Massimo Brambati feels that Inter could be regretting their decision to extend the contract of coach Simone Inzaghi during the summer prior to this season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TMW Radio, via FCInter1908, the journalist noted that the Nerazzurri made their trust in the coach very clear with the contract extension just twelve months after he joined, and that this could have been too early in his view.

After a first season which saw Inzaghi guide Inter to the Coppa Italia, the Supercoppa Italia, and the round of sixteen of the Champions League, but narrowly miss out on the Serie A title, Inter’s directors decided that they had no doubts about the suitability of Inzaghi.

For this reason, the former Lazio boss was handed a contract extension going into this season.

Whilst there have been plenty of positive performances and results this season, there have also been some less-than-stellar moments such as yesterday afternoon’s loss to Bologna, and Brambati feels that this makes it puzzling that the Nerazzurri directors had been so keen to extend Inzaghi’s deal.

Brambati argued, “Inter really took a leap of faith in deciding the extend Inzaghi’s contract last summer, when there was really no need to.”

“They clearly decided that they wanted to build their project around him, and now I think they’ll be wondering why they did so so early.”
