Italian journalist Paolo Assonga feels that the fact that Inter are as far behind Napoli as they are with the squad that they have is nothing less than a scandal.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, the journalist suggested that the Nerazzurri’s failure to even come close to the league leaders is a huge failure on their part given the expectations that they must face.
Inter are not just behind Napoli in the Serie A table, but an enormous margin behind the league leaders.
Theoretically, the Partenopei could afford to lose six of the remaining fourteen matches of the season and still win the Serie A title, underlining just how far ahead of the rest of the league they have been in terms of not just quality but consistency.
From the perspective of journalist Assogna, there is little defense for Inter being so far behind the Partenopei when the quality of players that they possess is taken into consideration.
“The distance from Napoli in the table is a debacle for Inter,” he said.
“Any team that has a squad like the one they have, and one that’s certainly oriented towards the present rather than the future, cannot be that far behind.”
“From that point of view, we have to judge their season negatively, although they could make up for it somewhat with performances in the cup competitions,” he added.
