Inter’s midweek victory over Porto in the Champions League was a factor in their Serie A loss to Bologna yesterday, according to Italian journalist Xavier Jacobelli.

Simone Inzaghi’s side were unable to build on a 1-0 victory over Porto on Wednesday as they fell to a defeat against the Rossoblu by the same scoreline at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, leaving them 18 points behind league leaders Napoli.

Appearing as a guest on Italian radio station Radio 24’s Tutti Convocati show yesterday, and as reported by Inter-News.it, Jacobelli felt that the Nerazzurri were suffering from the physical efforts of securing the win over Porto, whilst insisting that Napoli’s sensational form made it harder for Inter.

“We are talking about an exceptional season for Napoli,” Jacobelli claimed.

“They have reduced the role of the pursuer because when a team sails towards 100 points, the rest that remains for those who are in contention for a place in the Champions League or the Coppa Italia, I do not say it is a consolation prize but almost.”

Jacobelli felt that Inter had come up against a positive team and their lack of energy was exploited by the Rossoblu’s coach, former Nerazzurri midfielder Thiago Motta.

“It is clear that Inter, after their effort against Porto, paid for it against an opponent bursting with strength and glimpses of the Europa League qualification,” he continued.

“Thiago Motta’s team played a wonderful game, Orsolini in this form is good enough for the national team. We must underline Motta’s merits because if this team is doing so well it is thanks to him.”

Inter face Lecce in Serie A on Sunday as they look to bounce back from their defeat.
