The interview given by Inter striker Lautaro Martinez in the aftermath of the team’s Serie A loss to Bologna yesterday further confirmed the Argentine’s emergence as a new leader of the team.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that the 25-year-old showed that, with or without the captain’s armband, he is the player who is taking the team on his back for better or worse.
In the eyes of many, Martinez’s status as a new leader figure at Inter is exemplified by the striker wearing the armband in important wins against teams like AC Milan and Porto.
However, the 25-year-old’s leadership is not only proving to be important in the positive moments.
On the contrary, Martinez is also showing that he is capable of rising to the more difficult occasions.
Martinez spoke frankly about the team not having been anywhere near good enough as they fell to defeat against the Rossoblu yesterday evening, and of the need for them to put their heads down and work.
For the Gazzetta, this is clear evidence that the Argentine’s role is very much at the centre of this Inter project, driving the team on through the good times and the bad.
