The remarks from Inter striker Lautaro Martinez apologizing to fans after yesterday’s frustrating 1-0 away loss to Bologna in Serie A were a very clear indicator of the mood of the squad.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that the Argentine gave a kind of bellwether of the stormy temperament that the players have picked up in response to the disastrous result.

There were virtually no positives to take away from yesterday evening’s match at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara for Inter’s squad.

Martinez didn’t attempt to gloss over this when he apologized to the team’s supporters in his post-match, and the 25-year-old tellingly stated that “we’ll never get anywhere like this.”

The striker made sure to put the loss in context, as whilst on its own it was only one off day, it was the kind of result that lays bare exactly what the deficiencies are that are preventing this team from making good on their full potential.

In the view of the Gazzetta, Martinez exposed how much frustration the squad are feeling with themselves over not just yesterday afternoon’s loss, but for months of inconsistency and badly-timed slip-ups.
