Former AC Milan defender Demetrio Albertini feels that, whilst Napoli have had a truly stellar season so far to put themselves far and away at the top of the Serie A table, the chasing pack have been well below part.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the former defender gave his thoughts on the form of Inter, AC Milan, Juventus, and Napoli behind the league leaders.

In truth, the form of Napoli across the entire season so far has suggested that it would be difficult for even a team in good form to catch the Campanians at the top of the table.

However, the fact that the gap has now ballooned to eighteen points separating the Partenopei from second place in the table, shared by Inter and Milan, suggests that more could have been done by at least one or two out of the teams in their wake.

“Napoli have been having a spectacular season, it’s true,” Albertini said.

“Still, you have to look at the teams who are behind them, and all of them have slipped up too much.”

“When you look at Milan, Inter, Juventus, and Atalanta, all of them have been well below par at various points this season.
