Former Inter defender Fulvio Collovati believes that it is only natural that coach Simone Inzaghi’s position would be put into some question based on the team’s recent run of poor results.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster RAI Radio, via FCInterNews, the former defender argued that the trends that have been on show at the Nerazzurri have become genuinely worrying.

Whilst one or two poor results in isolation are something that happens to even the very best teams, the sense is that both this season and last, they have been part of a larger pattern at Inter.

Whilst there have been no shortage of positive results that have seen coach Inzaghi prove his worth, there have also been real slumps that have held the team back from really kicking on and reaching their larger objectives.

In the view of former defender Collovati, Inzaghi cannot escape criticism and questions about his suitability for the future.

“It’s inconceivable for a team who have perhaps the best squad in the league to be eighteen points back from Napoli, who are destroying the league,” he said.

“I have to remind you that Inter have lost seven matches so far this season, five away from home, and taken just two points from four matches against ‘small’ teams recently,” he added.

Collovati added that “When the gap was just eight points they still could’ve played for the Scudetto, but now that’s out of side, and blame has to be placed on the coach.”

“Then there’s also the period where they took just seven points from seven matches last season, it’s right for questions to be asked about Inzaghi.”
