Inter Corporate CEO Alessandro Antonello feels that there is no chance of the Nerazzurri pursuing the new stadium plans at the San Siro site if city rivals AC Milan decide to leave to build elsewhere.

Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the Rossoneri and with Milan Mayor Beppe Sala, as reported by FCInter1908, the Nerazzurri CEO also clarified that the club would have a backup option if the Rossoneri do go elsewhere.

Whilst Inter and Milan have long been pursuing plans to build a new stadium in place of the existing San Siro, the latter’s patience looks to have all but run out with bureaucratic delays.

Reports have suggested that the Rossoneri are now completely ready to go off to an alternative location and build without Inter.

Where precisely this leaves the Nerazzurri’s plans is unclear.

However, according to Corporate CEO Antonello, Inter would be prepared to leave and build in another area if Milan abandon the San Siro plans.

Asked about the purpose of this morning’s meeting, Antonello explained that “Today was an official meeting between us, the City Council, and Milan.”

“The atmosphere was cordial, it was an institutional setting,” he continued.

The Nerazzurri executive claimed that “The main option remains building in the the San Siro area together with Milan, who however today formally communicated that they have an interest in building in the La Maura (Hippodrome of San Siro) area.”

“A few weeks of analysis by Milan will be required now, and then we’ll meet again to make a determination on whether that will become the main object of their plans, or whether the plans will remain to build together at San Siro,” he continued.

“What we want to make clear is that over recent years, Inter have always worked completely coherently and shown determination in this project,” Antonello said.

“We want to reiterate that for us, the main idea is still to build at San Siro together with Milan.”

“Clearly, should Milan make the choice to opt out of this plan and go build in a different area, Inter also have an alternative plan, as we’ve always said is the case.”

“Accordingly, we’re awaiting the outcome of Milan’s assessments.”

The Nerazzurri Corporate CEO continued that “The idea of building at San Siro along with Milan remains alive.”

“We have to wait to see what the conclusions of Milan’s analysis are, though.”

“From our perspective, we’re respond to the agreements with the City Council, but for now we have to wait,” Antonello said.

The Inter Corporate CEO was then asked whether there’s a possibility of the Nerazzurri building on their own at San Siro, and answered clearly that “Not at the moment, right now the option is San Siro with Milan.”

“If they move to La Maura, then we also have an alternative plan.”

“We have an area identified, but for now we would have to respect a confidentiality agreement,” Antonello said of the Nerazzurri’s backup option.

“The area is, in any case, located outside the Municipality of Milan.”

Asked whether Inter have been surprised by the Rossoneri’s decisions, Antonello replied that “There are no surprises, what surprises us is the fact that we were proceeding with this project.”

“A change in vision for the future can come with changes in ownership, and so we accept their new ideas completely calmly.”

“Inter have taken very clear steps towards what we think is best for the club and for the fans,” he added.

As for when developments can be expected, Antonello replied that “I expect that for the next two or three weeks for Milan to be able to carry out the necessary analyses, and then they’ll return to us and the City Council for further talks.”

And on the prospect of building outside of the city of Milan, the Nerazzurri executive said that “Areas within the city itself are very limited.”

“All the alternatives, from Sesto onwards, are locations in the greater metropolitan area,” he continued.

“Within the city of Milan itself, options are few, and La Maura is one of them,” Antonello noted.

“More realistic options would be the ones outside the city itself,” he concluded.
