Italian journalist Riccardo Trevisani feels that there is a lack of tension kept in Inter’s squad on a week-to-week basis by head coach Simone Inzaghi.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInter1908, Trevisani noted how the Nerazzurri have proven their quality in the biggest matches but that this has not been seen with any consistency in the matches with lower stakes on paper.

Sunday afternoon’s away loss to Bologna in Serie A was only the latest in a string of subpar results from Inter in matches where they will have been expected to take three points.

Wins over the likes of Napoli, AC Milan, Atalanta, and Porto, as well as a win and a draw against Barcelona in the Champions League before the World Cup have been contrasted with listless performances in matches against teams like Empoli, Monza, and Sampdoria.

For Trevisani, this comes down to the coach’s ability to get the overall level of the team where it needs to be on an absolutely consistent basis.

“The team remains very strong, they’re capable of beating Barcelona, Napoli, Milan,” the journalist noted.

“But then you look at the results against the smaller teams, and it looks as though the tension is not there week to week, and that has to be laid at the feet of the coach.”
