Italian journalist Sandro Sabatini feels that Inter coach Simone Inzaghi does not switch things enough with the substitutions that he makes.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInter1908, Sabatini gave the view that the Nerazzurri coach’s second half changes tend to be all too predictable which is why they don’t tend to change matches.

While Inzaghi has sometimes made impactful substitutions, such as with his second half substitutions in last Wednesday’s Champions League win over Porto, the coach has often been criticized for his strategy when turning to his bench.

Against Bologna on Sunday evening, the 46-year-old did use his substitutions, but in truth little looked different on the pitch as both the shape of the team and the overall approach and tempo of the match were hardly altered.

From Sabatini’s perspective this has become a real problem with how Inzaghi manages the team.

“When Inzaghi goes to his bench, he’s like an academic going by a formula,” the journalist said of the Nerazzurri coach.

“His substitutions have become too easy to predict, and they don’t change matches when his teams need something different.”
