Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has not shown real signs of improvements during his tenure in charge of the Nerazzurri, as evidenced by a winter slump in his second season just like in his first.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who argue that Inter fans have “seen this move before” with a difficult winter period for the team.
Last season, Inter came into January as league leaders and title favourites, a status which they confirmed by beating Lazio in their first match back.
However, a sequence of poor results starting with a loss to AC Milan in the derby and encompassing defeat by Sassuolo as well as draws against Napoli, Genoa, Fiorentina, and Torino saw this advantage disappear.
This time around, a statement win over Napoli at the start of January seemed to indicate that Inter were heading into the second part of the season strong and ready to push the Partenopei at the top.
However, a number of unexpected dropped points in the league have totally turned that momentum around, and left the Nerazzurri fighting for top four in the run-in of the season.
From the perspective of Tuttosport, the stale tactics, lack of motivation, and inability to turn tough matches around with substitutions has become too much of a theme with Inzaghi, and it may well be the case that he has no more evolving left to do as a coach.
