Milan Mayor Beppe Sala is hoping that there’s still a possibility of Inter continuing to play at the San Siro during the transitional period whilst the new stadium situation is sorted out.

Speaking at a DigiGreen event reported by Italian news service ANSA, via FCInterNews, the Mayor gave his thoughts on the stadium situation, also noting that he plans to have a face-to-face talks with AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale today.

With Milan now looking increasingly determined to build a new stadium on their own, the plans of the Rossoneri, the Nerazzurri, and the city of Milan are all up in the air.

Sala is hoping for some certainty soon, with a clear indication of Milan’s plans expected in the next two or three weeks.

For his part, the Mayor is hoping that there is a possibility of Inter to keep using the San Siro to play in in the meantime, even if it would hardly constitute a long-term solution for the club.

“Many ideas can be kept open but in the end we need to reach a conclusion,” Sala said.

“I think that Milan are definitely looking to accelerate their plans, and I want to verify that with their owners,” he continued.

“I can only listen to what they have to say and then verify from a technical standpoint how we’re going to manage things.”

Sala added that “My hope is that Inter, even id just during a transitional period, can stay at San Siro.”

“Someone said that the Mayor is losing a battle here, I don’t know why they say that.”

The Mayor noted that “If the teams want a new stadium because they believe they will earn more revenue then there’s not much more that I can do.”

Sala suggested that “Milan seem to be going in the direction of a new and very specific, precise project, Inter less so.”

The Mayor explained that “This afternoon I’ll meet with Gerry Cardinale to understand whether it’s really the case that Milan are planning to build in the La Maura area, and what to do from there.”
