Inter striker Lautaro Martinez looks to have taken on a greater and greater leadership role at the Nerazzurri since returning from the winter break as World Cup champion.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who suggest that the triumph in Qatar with the Argentine national team has given the 25-year-old a newfound self-belief that has allowed him to make this change.
Martinez had never been a player who is shy on the pitch, but in recent matches in particularly, the Argentine has been the player who seems to lead by example.
Whether or not he has been wearing the captain’s armband, the striker has been the player who takes responsibility into his hands, including when things are not going well.
For the Corriere, a lot of this change has come down to a shift in attitude after the World Cup.
In Qatar, Martinez was not at his best as he found himself dropped from Argentina’s starting eleven following a disappointing couple matches.
However, the Inter striker still had his contribution to make, and the fact that everything worked out as it did gave the player confidence that, even though there will always be adversity, triumph at the end is possible.
In the view of the Corriere, Martinez carried this view over to his club, as his mentality of responsibility for the difficult moments is strengthened by a sense that with struggle and responsibility, great things can come.
