The Assago commune has made clear that they are not an area that Inter are in talks with to build a new stadium, and moreover that they would resist any proposals by the Nerazzurri that they feel could harm their area.
Writing in a press release, as reported by FCInter1908, the commune made clear their position amid rumours of talks with the Nerazzurri, specifying the risks that a new stadium would affect traffic in the area.
In the past few days, there has been a great deal of speculation regarding where Inter could build a new stadium on their own should AC Milan abandon plans to build jointly in place of the San Siro.
The commune of Assago has been one of the areas that has been suggested, with some reports even proposing that there are already some signed documents after talks.
However, the commune itself has firmly denied these rumours, writing that “With reference to some articles recently published in sports newspapers and the uproar that arose following them, the municipal administration of Assago confirms that it has never been contacted by the Inter ownership regarding the construction of a new stadium, and that the area they’re looking at is a different one.”
They continue that “In the event that the construction of a new stadium becomes a concrete proposal, and this should cause repercussions for traffic on the network of roads surrounding the Assago area, the municipal administration will use all means possible to defend the area.”
