Chelsea would have no intention of bringing striker Romelu Lukaku back into the squad next season, but Inter are keen to negotiate a lower loan fee for the striker.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri are set to ask for the €8 million loan fee to be lowered to around €5 million to bring the Belgian back next season.

It is far from a foregone conclusion that Lukaku will be an Inter player at the start of next season.

According to the Corriere, both clubs are very open to talks regarding an extension to the 29-year-old’s loan, and have been ever since agreeing a deal last summer.

However, given that Lukaku’s performances have not been up to the expected level in his injury-hit first season back in Milan, Inter would expect this to be reflected in a lower loan fee.

The Nerazzurri could use the fact that Chelsea are not interested in bringing Lukaku back and reintegrating the striker into their squad in order to ask for the loan fee to be lower this summer, with the Corriere reporting that they are aiming for €5 million.

Meanwhile, Inter could also ask for the player himself to accept lower wages than he is currently earning in order to stay in Milan next season.
