Inter attacking midfielder Valentin Carboni could be looking to overtake Paris Saint-Germain forward Lionel Messi as the youngest ever debutant for the Argentine national team since Diego Armando Maradona later this month.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the Nerazzurri player would go ahead of Messi in the rankings if he were to make an appearance for the Albiceleste in friendlies against Panama or Curacao.

Carboni has been called up to some Argentine national team squads by coach Lionel Scaloni, but he has yet to actually be capped in a senior international match.

The 17-year-old is once again in the Albiceleste’s squad for upcoming friendly matches during the March international break.

Given that Carboni only has his 18th birthday tomorrow, an appearance in either match would mean that the Inter player would be debuting at a younger age than Messi, who made his first senior international appearance aged 18 years and one month.

Maradona, however, debuted at the age of 16 years and three months, some way earlier than either.
